The meeting constitutes a platform of exchange and interaction between the five hard x-ray free-electron laser (FEL) facilities that are currently operating or under construction worldwide. The Linac Coherent Light Source (LCLS) at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory in Menlo Park, USA, operates since 2009 and is currently preparing an upgrade program. The SPring-8 Angstrom Compact Free Electron Laser (SACLA) at Harima, Japan operates since 2011. The next facility planned to come into operation in 2015 is the PAL-XFEL at Pohang Accelerator Laboratory in Pohang, Korea. The European XFEL in Hamburg, Germany is scheduled to deliver first x-rays by the end of 2016. This facility is built using the same technology as the FLASH soft X-ray FEL facility at DESY, operating since 2005. Finally, the SwissFEL at Paul-Scherrer-Institute in Villigen, Switzerland is currently under construction and plans to deliver light to users by 2017.
